Get Me Out Of This Slump
Oh winter, there are so many things I love about you, and so many things that I despise. One of them being “the winter blues.” Some of you know what I’m talking about, and for the rest of you, it may take reading a few more sentences for you to catch on.
It happens to me every year. Maybe it’s my body reacting to the cold, or my mind getting restless with being indoors. Whatever it is, I just can’t seem to shake the funk.
This year, I am going to be three steps ahead of these blues, and I encourage you to do the same. Here are three simple ways that I help myself fight the winter blues.
1. Be The Boss of Your Emotions
Say this out loud. “I own my emotions, my emotions DO NOT own me. We have to make conscience decision to choose joy, every single day. I talk to myself regularly. “Sadness you don’t belong here, irritability, you DO NOT belong here. We ARE the boss.
2. Get Active
Take action and FORCE yourself to get active! These days the last thing that I want to do is get up. But usually the last thing that you want to do is what you NEED to do. What do you love to do? Start there. Nothing makes me happier than doing what I am created to do. I guarantee this will turn your frown upside down!
3. Phone a Friend
I know, I know, the last thing that you want to do is speak to someone during a time like this. But again that’s exactly why you should. Who do you go to for encouragement? This is the person that you need to contact. Even if you send a text message saying “Help, I’m down” muster up the strength to connect to others!
I pray that this encourages you! Next time you’re feeling down, let this post be a reminder to shake it off!
