Hey sweet friends! I hope that you guys are enjoying your Monday!
If there is one thing that I fully understand about my time here on earth, it is that I will constantly face temptations. The devil is real, and he moves, lives, & exist to kill steal and destroy.
Kill, Steal & Destroy.
As scary as that may sound, I’m so glad that Jesus left us so many examples of how to pass the devils worn out, tired, funky, annoying behind test. What better story to look at than Jesus being tempted by the devil. It may be new to some of you, and to some of us we have heard it so often that we can take for granted the powerful message behind it.
Through this story Jesus leave us some practical steps to stay ahead of these tired behind games the devil always wants to play!
Guard Your Heart
The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
Jesus had been fasting for 40 days and 40 nights. I can barely fast a meal without feeling like I’m going to pass out, so I am sure we can all imagine how hungry Jesus must’ve been. So what does the devil tempt Jesus with? FOOD!
He was well aware of Jesus “weakness.” What are your weaknesses? What are you battling with in your heart?
Whatever it is, like Jesus, we have to respond with scriptures that help us keep our hearts in check.
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
If comparison is a struggle for you —
Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Find scriptures and fight back! Guard your heart, guard your heart GUARD YOUR HEART!
2. Know Your Word
“If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ”
Now, the devil may be clever, but I’m not too sure how he thought he was going to use scriptures to trick Jesus. Uh, he’s Jesus. Of course, Jesus responds with the word.
In the times that we live in now, it is so important to know your word. There are so many people twisting the word, and causing confusion among fellow believers. More than ever people are twisting the bible to back up their own desires.
How can we guard our hearts if we have no knowledge of scripture? Now I’m not saying to memorize the entire bible — but it is very important that we know what the word says, so when temptations come, and twisted words knock on the doors of our hearts, we can fight back with TRUTH!
3. Keep Your Eyes On The Prize
“Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
If we can take a moment to be honest with ourselves, I am sure that we all have moments where we desire what others have. I have moments where I feel that I would be happier if I had more money, or more followers, and more vacations. None of these things are bad, and God does desire that we live our best lives. These things become bad when we are willing to put aside what Jesus says to obtain them.
When the people on your floor at work cheat, and sneak out of work early, or your neighbor lies on their taxes, a temptation can rise inside of us to do the same. We may even find ourselves frustrated watching those who seem to do all the wrong things rise to the top.
I love Jesus’ response.
“Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”
When the temptation to do wrong arises in us, we have to remember that God will give us our hearts desires. HE will make a way when their seems to be no way. He is our provider. When we are obedient and serve him and put him first all of the desires of our hearts are met!
