BE: Without giving away any spoilers, can you let us in on what Soloist is about?
Clarissa: Soloist is a collection of poems written from the perspective of a single woman who feels unlovable, who fights with contentment, and who fears intimacy. Initially I was nervous about publishing this book because I had to be vulnerable, but I wanted women who struggle with their singleness to experience the same healing I experienced through writing this book.
BE: What advice would you give to women who are on the same journey as you?
Clarissa: Being single is really tough but know that you are not alone. Through Soloist I’ve met countless of young women, who like myself, have always been single and it’s encouraging to know that there are women out there who are on the same journey.
Another piece of advice: do not settle! Don’t ever compromise your standards at the expense of someone’s company.
And lastly, I will say embrace and cherish every moment of this season by making it a priority to love God, to love others, and to love yourself.
BE: Favorite encouraging bible verse?
Clarissa: “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” (Romans 12:9-12 NIV)
