Pick A Lane
Daniel 1:8, 12 NLT
“But Daniel was determined not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king. He asked the chief of staff for permission not to eat these unacceptable foods.
“Please test us for ten days on a diet of vegetables and water,” Daniel said.”
Let’s keep it real. Doing the right thing doesn’t always look appealing. The world does a great job at making a life without integrity look like the high road. But is it really?
To be honest I questioned this for a while. Am I the only one? From your coworker who gets the promotion although he forges signatures to the friend that lies on their taxes and receives a huge return - there are so many examples that I’m sure you can think of that make you wonder is it worth it to do the right thing?
I am so encouraged and grateful for the story of Daniel. The king ordered that all the servants eat the best meat and food that the king had to offer. During that time eating that would not be considered the right thing to do.
But everyone else was doing it.
And I mean COME ON I can only imagine all the steak, rice, grapes, fried chicken, & wine the King had for them. There is no way that food didn’t look good! There is no way that food didn’t smell up the entire palace with a sweet aroma. Although the wrong path looked delicious, Daniel picked a lane and stayed in it. Although I’m sure he was tempted he ate vegetables and drank water.
At the end of those ten days Daniel and his friends were stronger and healthier than all the other servants who ate the kings diet.
How encouraging is that!!! Friends, we can never get tired of doing what’s good. We can never get tired of doing what’s right. You may not see the reward of your integrity in 10 days like Daniel, but it’s coming!!!
Pick a lane, & stay in it. God will honor you in His perfect timing!
